HEAVEN'S BASEMENT: I Love This Band (video)

 #heavensbasement #rockfile
There is an up and coming rock band that has taken things back to the basics and come up with a fresh sounding, swaggering collection of fun rock songs called Filthy Empire. You need to check out Heaven's Basement!

After hitting #1 on Rockfile Radio FIRE with "Fire Fire", we are already getting a great response to the next track, "Heartbreaking Son Of A Bitch".

The band is currently on tour until the end of the year: https://www.facebook.com/HeavensBasement/app_123966167614127

CBGB Movie Trailer (video)

#cbgb #rockfile
In the late 90's, I was lucky enough to party at this historic establishment. You could actually feel the history and energy in every fiber of the place. While I am sure it will take dramatic license with the story, the movie looks like a lot of fun! They are aiming for an October release.

The movie stars Alan Rickman as boss Hilly Kristal, who opened the night club in 1973 with the intention of running a country, bluegrass and blues establishment – then oversaw its transformation into the birthplace of US underground punk.

The Ramones, The Police, Talking Heads, Blondie, Television and Dead Boys are among those featured in the movie, which includes Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins as Iggy Pop.

CBGB closed in 2006 following a rent dispute with its landlords, and Kristal died the following year – but his insistence that every act he booked had to play all-original music is remembered as a golden rule that changed the face of American rock’n'roll.

THOR: THE DARK WORLD Trailer (video)

#thor #marvel #rockfile #ttdw
Although I grew up on Marvel Comics, I really was not a Thor fan. X-Men, Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Iron Fist, Avengers, yes but Thor, not so much. That's why the first movie was such a surprise, I have enjoyed it as much, if not more, than the other recent Marvel movies. I am very much looking forward to this:

Thor, the Mighty Avenger, returns to the big screen in Marvel's "Thor: The Dark World" on November 8!

Happy Birthday ALLAN HOLDSWORTH (video)

#allanholdsworth #rockfile
Allan Holdsworth (born 6 August 1946) is an English guitarist and composer. He has released twelve studio albums as a solo artist and played a variety of musical styles spanning a period of more than four decades, but is best known for his work in jazz fusion.

Holdsworth is noted for his advanced knowledge of music, through which he incorporates a vast array of complex chord progressions and intricate solos, the latter comprising myriad scale forms derived from those such as the diminished, augmented, whole tone, chromatic and altered scales, among others, resulting in an unpredictable and "off" sound. His unique legato soloing technique stems from his desire to originally play the saxophone, but having been unable to afford one he thus intentionally utilised the guitar in order to make it sound like a different instrument. He has also become associated with playing an early form of guitar synthesizer called the SynthAxe, a company which he endorsed in the 1980s.

Holdsworth has been cited as an influence by such renowned rock and instrumental guitarists as Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Greg Howe, Shawn Lane, Richie Kotzen, John Petrucci and Alex Lifeson. Frank Zappa once lauded him as "one of the most interesting guys on guitar on the planet".

DEAD LETTER CIRCUS - I love this band (video)

#deadlettercircus #rockfile
We are four days away from the release of the second album from Dead Letter Circus. I discovered this band with a few others from "Down Under" when I stumbled across a video of theirs a couple of years ago. I imported their EP and was blown away. I pre-ordered my copy of the album, how about you?
