MUPPETS MOST WANTED Official Trailer (video)

 #muppets #muppetmostwanted #rockfile
I really enjoyed the 2011 Muppets reboot, it is one of my favorite movies of that year. It did a lot to re-capture the magic the Muppets originally had. And the sequel (coming in March 2014) looks great! Here is the first trailer:

Rock Hard (FRA)

"Bruce Soord and Jonas Renkse star in one of the jewels of 2013"
9/10 noizzwebzine

Originally written with Renkse's voice in mind, Soord sought out the acclaimed Katatonia vocalist to complete the compositions and release the music to the masses. Despite the rigorous schedules of The Pineapple Thief and Katatonia, the two musicians were eventually able to connect.

Both artists are currently enjoying unparalleled success with their main bands.

The Pineapple Thief have just completed a successful European tour following the release of their latest album, All The Wars in September. Rocksound described All The Wars as "an album of Muse-like, slow burning guitar anthems", while Classic Rock stated it was "the sound of a band reaching the height of their powers" and Prog argued it was an "elegant, sophisticated work... moody and meaningful, introspective and universal."

Katatonia also released a new album last year. Dead End Kings was released on the Peaceville label in August and reinforced their position as "one of the most consistently fascinating bands in modern heavy music." (Metal Hammer, 9/10). The album featured heavily in the album of the year polls of magazines around the world and was also nominated for a Grammy in the band's homeland of Sweden.

Happy Birthday MITCH EASTER (video)

#mitcheaster #letsactive #rem
Mitch Easter (Born November 15, 1954) is a songwriter, musician, and producer. As a producer, he is probably best known for his work with R.E.M. from 1981 through 1984, though he has also worked with many other acts including Ben Folds Five, Pylon, Helium, Pavement, Suzanne Vega, Game Theory, Marshall Crenshaw, The Connells, Velvet Crush, Ken Stringfellow (of The Posies), and Birds of Avalon.

As a musician, Easter played with the Sneakers during the late 1970s; was the frontman for the band Let's Active during the 1980s and released his first solo album in 2007.

Although commercial success eluded the group, Let's Active's offbeat pop style of jangle pop/power pop was a major influence on later groups such as the aforementioned R.E.M.

KILLZONE SHADOW FALL Launch Trailer (video)

#killzone #playstation #ps4 #rockfile
I've played the Call Of Duty and Battlefield games, I love the Halo series but as shooters go, the Killzone games have always been more intense experiences.  Maybe because the single player campaign is anything but an afterthought, unlike the current multiplayer champions, but I am very much looking forward to diving back into this world. In stores now, the PS4 system releases Friday (Nov. 15th)

Brand New ROBOCOP Trailer (video)

#robocop #remakes #reboots #rockfile
Nearly all remakes have been pale imitations of their originals with a few being mildly entertaining versions and most being downright bad. I have no idea if this will be any good but it already looks better than any of the sequels. Nothing can touch the original but it would be nice if this remake was different than all the rest. We shall see.

Happy Birthday MICHAEL CERVERIS (video)

#michaelcerveris #fringe #rockfile
I saw that it is Michael Cerveris' birthday today and since I enjoyed his performance on Fringe, I thought I would post a clip. While searching, I found much more than I bargained for! Wow!

He has performed in many stage musicals and plays, including several Stephen Sondheim musicals: Assassins, Sweeney Todd, Road Show, and Passion. He won the Tony Award as Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Assassins.
He was called, by Playbill.com, "arguably the most versatile leading man on Broadway",playing roles from "Shakespeare's Romeo to The Who's Tommy, from the German transsexual rock diva Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch to the homicidal title character of Sondheim's Sweeney Todd."
Cerveris' most visible television role to date has been as the Observer code-named September in the FOX science fiction television series Fringe. His character, a mysterious man seen attending many unusual events, has appeared regularly during the series and became one of the main characters to bring the story to its end.

Headphones/Earphones 2013 (mini reviews)

 #headphones #earphones #reviews #klipsch #rockfile
This is not supposed to be a professional review of headphones. I did not put them to any tests more than my real world use. But, having used headphones since I was very young, I figured I would let you know what I found in a recent crop of listening devices.

I have used headphones/ear buds all my life.  I had a couple of nice sets as a kid and once I got into radio, always having my own pair of earphones was mandatory.  While I have friends who are die-hard Sennheiser fans, I gravitated to Sony On-ear Professional Headphones for brighter highs and a tighter sound. I used them for work and play for many, many years.

As the iPod grew in popularity, in-ear headphones began to appear. Recording artists use them on stage and a set comes bundled with every mp3 player these days.  But, the cheapies you get for free are really not worth listening to and you should upgrade immediately. (Although I have not tried the new Apple Earpods that came with my iPhone 5S, I will and let you know. They supposedly sound better than the older Apple Earbuds but are still not audiophile quality.)

Over the last few years, I tested a set of Audeo Perfect Fit earphones and they have been my favorite but they are pricey, currently around $229. I was sent a free pair for evaluation and they became my permanent set, I really loved the smooth sound. But, eventually the cables became frayed and the set needed to be replaced.  In normal use, these would have lasted a lot longer but I am pretty hard on my headsets.

At the time, connectivity with my iPhone was imperative and I got a pair of Klipsch S4i's in-ear headphones for Christmas. For the money, these headphones rival the much more expensive Audeo for less than half the cost.  I have had several recording artists comment on them while I was using them as interview monitors. It seems a lot of people in the music industry like the Klipcsh. Not only so they make music sound great but my phones calls (on iPhone 4) were clearer, too.

During a recent interview trip, I misplaced my Klipsch and decided to use the opportunity to try out some other headphones.  My first thought was to get bigger "cans" that would be harder to lose.  First up Beats, everybody has a pair....how bad could they be, right?  If you buy a pair of Beats, you should be beaten. Literally. These overpriced headphones are made decently well but sound terrible.  For the younger generation it is more about how they look than how they sound. WRONG! When it comes to music, don't short yourself. Unless all you listen to is rap, you will not enjoy these headphones with their exaggerated bass and unrealistic sound.

To prove that point, I picked up a pair of Noontec Zoro's, made by an Italian company to compete with Beats.  They look like Beats but they do not sound like them...they are much better. Their sound is much more balanced and clean.  And I got my pair for $63 on Amazon, Beats Solo sell for $179.  Although they sounded pretty good, after 29 years in the music industry, I needed something more. But you could do a lot worse than these for a lot more money.

Next, I found a pair of $150-$200 Sennheiser HD 380s for 99 bucks!  Although they have giant over-your-ear cans, I was excited to finally have some "audophile" headphones.  Boy, was I disappointed! While the sound was very balanced and clean, the HD headphones are really for home use. Their sensitivity needs more power and iPhones barely drive them enough.  The sound was great but they are just not built to be portable.  And since a lot of my listening is during dog walks in the South Florida Sun, these also make your head sweat quite a bit.

So, what did I finally decide on? Another pair of Klipsch s4i's. For the money, you cannot beat them. And they have been redesigned since my first pair.  The new flat cable is terrific and they sound better than ever.  Until I can afford to get a pair of x11i's ($350-$500), the x4i's suit my lifestyle and nit-picky, audiophile listening requirements for well under $100.
